Dr. Mahtani is the owner of the Mahtani Group of Companies which was established in the year 1981. In a few years after establishment, the Mahtani Group rose to fame and become one of the top conglomerates across Zambia as well as Africa. Some of the sectors where the company expanded were mining, agriculture, banking, energy, real estate, insurance and many more. Across each of these sectors, Dr. Mahtani was able to make significant contributions through social and economic benefits, community engagement, employment and livelihood opportunities for the locals as well as overall improvement of the industry standards. One of the clear examples have been the banking sector of Zambia. In a similar manner, the philanthropic and charitable contributions from Dr. Mahtani has been unique. Some of these contributions included the Prison Fellowship Zambia, a program affiliated by PFI (Prison Fellowship International), Washington. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the present Chairman of this program which focusses on providing social support and justice for the inmates, ex-inmates as well as their families in Zambia. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a firm believer in humanity and sees the best in people. As such, he believes that one of the effective ways of improving a nation is ensuring that the people with the least privileges are given opportunity to turn around their lives and contribute to the society in a positive manner, Apart from this philanthropic contribution in the criminal justice department, Dr. Mahtani has also made significant contributions in the educational sector of Zambia. Dr. Rajan Mahtani founded the Stephen Malama award and scholarship. This award and scholarship is made for top law graduates in Zambia. The award carries a scholarship worth thousands that would definitely help the top law graduates in building their careers.
These contributions from Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani were finally recognised by Forbes and FIN (Foreign Investment Limited) during the Forbes ‘Best of Africa’ awards ceremony. As such, Dr. Mahtani was conferred with the Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ award.
